More about Patek Philippe 5059P-001 Retrograde Perpetual Calendar Platinum

This is a platinum Patek Philippe Retrograde Perpetual Calendar 5059P. It has an Officer's style wide rounded bezel, platinum screwed bars, a white enamel dial and black oxidized gold feuille hands with a second sweep hand, Roman numeral hour markers, and a minute rail around the circumference with a slightly domed sapphire crystal. It's a perpetual calendar with indications of hours, minutes, seconds, date, and day, an adjustment for leap year, and a moon phase sub dial at 6:00. The date window is at 12:00. The perpetual calendar will adjust exactly for short and long months as well as leap years. The retrograde arc on the dial also tells the date. The alligator leather strap has a matching platinum fold-over deployant clasp. The 12.4mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed.

The four-body case is polished and brushed with a hinged half-hunter case back that springs open with the flick of a thumb to reveal a flat sapphire crystal display back.

This Patek Philippe Retrograde Perpetual Calendar 5059P has a mechanical automatic self-winding caliber 315/136 movement that's rhodium-plated with fausses cotes embellishment and the Seal of Geneva mark of quality. The renowned movement mechanisms were saved from Patek's 5050 perpetual calendar watches to outfit this hunter case 5059P. It's constructed with 31 jewels, a straight-line lever escapement, a shock absorber mechanism, and a 21K gold central ball-bearing rotor. The mechanism oscillates at 21,600 vph, and it has a self-compensating free-sprung flat balance spring. It also has the patented Gyromax balance that compensates for cold, heat, isochronism, and five positions. The power reserve is 46 hours and it's water resistant to 25m.

Patek Philippe introduced thePatek Philippe Retrograde Perpetual Calendar 5059P in 1998 and discontinued it in 2006.
