More about Heuer 3647T Vintage Carrera Tachy 45 Silver Dial SS

This is a c.1960's stainless steel Heuer Carrera, 3647T. It has a shell cordovan strap with a stainless steel tang buckle, and an acrylic crystal. It has a solid screwed down case back signed Heuer Leonidas inside, and a winding crown flanked by twin smooth chronograph pushbuttons. The 35.3mm diameter two-body case, downturned lugs, and case and rounded bezel are polished/brushed. The original dial is silver with mirror finished steel baton hands with luminous inserts, applied baton hour markers, and a central black chronograph hand. It has an outer 1/5-second track with luminous dots at the hour markers. The "T" in the reference number is for the red tachymeter scale on the outer part of the dial. There is a subsidiary dial for the 45-minute register at the 3 o'clock position, and a running seconds sub dial at 9 o'clock. It's water resistant to 30 meters/100 feet, and the 11.4mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed, with "Heuer Leonidas" on the bridge.

The mechanical manual winding Valjoux 92 movement is rhodium plated and constructed with 17 jewels. It includes a straight-line lever escapement, a shock absorber mechanism, a monometallic balance, and a blued steel flat balance spring.

Also referred to as the Carrera Decimal 45, because the minute registers counted to 45 minutes, this a highly desirable vintage watch. Heuer ended production of the Valjoux 92 movement in 1969.
