More about IWC G6B/346 Mark XI Caliber 89 RAF Pilot SS

This is a vintage c. 1951 stainless steel IWC Mark XI Pilot Watch, G6B/346. It has a NATO strap with a stainless steel tang buckle, and a perspex crystal (shatterproof and shock resistant). The solid case back has the correct engravings and there is a broad arrow marking on the movement bridge. The 34.5mm diameter solid two-body case, downturned lugs, and cupped angled bezel are polished/brushed. It has an oversized crown, and the dial is black while there is a closely matching patina on both the dial quarter-hour index markers and the baton hands. It has a center sweep second hand, and white outer minute/second divisions. According to Australian military specifications for a Mark XI watch in the late 1940's, this was water resistant to 50 feet. The 11mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed.

The manual winding IWC Caliber 89 has a monometallic balance that's adjusted to heat, cold, and 6 positions, and a straight-line lever escapement.

The International Watch Company Mark XI Pilot Watch, G6B/346, was introduced in 1948, issued to the Royal Air Force to British MOD specification. It is one of the most sought after military-issue watches ever made.
