The automatic IWC calibre C 30110 movement is rhodium-plated, constructed with 21 jewels, a straight line lever escapement, and a monometallic balance adjusted for heat, cold, and 5 positions. It has a shock absorber, and a self-compensating flat balance spring. The case, dial, and movement are all signed.

IWC has made some of the premier aviator's watches in the world since 1936 when they launched the Special Pilot’s Watch, and then in 1940, when they debuted the Big Pilot’s Watch 52 T.S.C. on the eve of World War II. The Mark XVII "Die Fliegeruhr" (flyer's clock) is one of the premier aviator's watches in the world.
